The Rhodopes Mountain

This painting represents a landscape from one of the most beautiful mountains in Bulgaria - the majestic and mystical Rhodope Mountains. Ever since I was a child, the love and strong attraction for these places was born in me. I remember that during the excursions with my family, I could not take my eyes off the pine forests. I was breathing the fragrant mountain air, and observing the lines that outlined the mountain slopes. I tried to remember all the sights along with their fabulous colors. In my mind, beautiful melodies of Bulgarian folk songs emerged! They were sounds of the traditional Rhodope kaba bagpipes, along with the song of the wild birds. I painted this picture after an excursion I took two years ago with my husband and children. My little daughter was walking along the mountain slope where I was sitting and watching the view. I was trying to remember it along with the feelings it awakened. I decided that I would paint a picture of this very place and I took some photos of it, as a memory. In this painting, as in all the landscapes I paint, I did not aim to paint nature as seen by the camera lens, I desired to reflect on the canvas the colors of all my feelings, thoughts, and emotions that I experienced in this place and so to convey all this beauty to the viewers who will enjoy it.
